INCOMING

Next year’s booster club board will be as follows:

Past Chair: Jack Parker

Chair: Terry Brame

Vice Chair: Terri Proffitt

Ways and Means: Tracey Jennings

Secretary: Robin Wrabley

Also, we have some new committee chairs:

Travel Team parent: Laurie Black

Hospitality: Terry Brame

Concessions: Karen Watson & Renee St. Clair

Officials: Terri Proffitt

Please help us to support these parents in their efforts on behalf of our LY swimmers. If we hope to continue running swim meets (our biggest fundraisers!) we need parent volunteers to become officials - both wet and dry deck. With no meet referee or starter currently on the team, it is challenging for us to pull off our meets. We also need some of our officials to become certified as YMCA officials or we will not be able to run the Y meet in January. Again, these meets raise a substantial portion of our budget and if we are unable to run them, we will see a marked increase in dues to make up for the lost revenue. We’ll also end up having to travel to find meets, instead of being able to stay at home. As an extra challenge in the coming year, the Virginia High School League is attempting to run the AA High School State Meet on the same date as our Blue Ridge Region meet (the A/BB meet). I am uncertain how this will all play out, but I do know if this happens, we are going to need a special commitment from our parents to ensure that we have plenty of workers for the Region meet. If you have ever considered working as an official, please talk to Terri Proffitt to find out more.

Travel Team clarification: Some folks become confused about the travel team, because we do actually have travel meets where we take swimmers who are not on the travel team - Capital Classic and Chattanooga for instance. The Travel Team is merely a body of swimmers who have attained a certain level of swimming (they must have two 15-16 AA times) and who train with the Senior training group (only swimmers in the senior training group are eligible to go to Y National and above meets), who raise money to support their travel to Y National and above meets.
