LY SWIMMING PRACTICE SCHEDULE UPDATES:

SCHEDULES & EVENTS: Regular Schedule

The last team practice this summer will be August 1st.

Changes for the Fall:

As we work to adapt to the changing abilities of our progressing swimmers, we are making some minor shifts in our usual schedule to try to better accomodate individual and team needs. In the coming year, seniors and preseniors can anticipate having their Friday afternoon practices at the Jamerson Y from 4-6PM. We will be using all 8 lanes during this time. We also anticipate using all 8 lanes at the Jamerson on Saturday mornings from 7-9AM. The generosity of the Y in allowing us the pool during these hours will have several benefits. One, older swimmers will get a little more time in the short course pool during the short course season which will help in their preparation for meets during the season. Two, the added space will allow us to create, if necessary, another small group that can transition between the gold group and the presenior group, practicing through the week with the Gold swimmers and on Friday and Saturday with the preseniors and senior swimmers. This Platinum group will be very small and only for swimmers committed to progressing through our program and capable of training at the necessary level.

Meanwhile, the downtown groups have become too large for that space. Swimmers who currently swim in the presenior and senior groups may find themselves moved back to the Gold or Platinum group come fall. While one criteria for moving downtown is obviously the ability to train within certain intervals at certain yardage levels, we will also be looking at those of you who do not seem to be able to correct your stroke technique. Lickety-split swimming or not, if you find that your coach is repeatedly telling you to make the same corrections, you may want to actually slow down and make them or find yourself in a different training group in the fall. Proper technique is VITAL for continued swimmer success.

LY Swimming has changed and grown in many ways over the past three years. While the presenior group used to be more of a catch-all group, it has grown to be a group for committed and very competitive swimmers. The Gold group has grown to be the group that can serve the widest variety of swimmers including the high school athlete looking to stay in shape for high school and summer league swimming, to the younger swimmer who is looking to progress to higher groups in the LY system. We have been blessed to have the support of the YMCA staff in providing our children with the necessary time and space to accomodate their changing needs. Please thank them for their support!
