LONG COURSE
In
May, LY Swimmers have several options. Having met your financial obligation of
payment through April for the short course season, you could choose to retire
for the summer. (But really, you are pretty young to retire!) OR you may choose
to swim the entire long course season, which in actuality runs from late April
through early August. Monthly fees remain the same. OR you may choose to only
swim the month of May to carry you to the start of the summer league practices.
In this case, you will merely pay the monthly fee for May. Should you decide to
stop swimming after April, you will have to let me know during that month so
that you are not billed come May. Our May practices continue at the YMCA pools
as they have been.
To realize the most benefit from training, our professional recommendation is for ALL swimmers who are 9 and older to swim long course with LY. A few of the younger swimmers may also swim long course if they are especially motivated, but in general 8 & under swimmers should just enjoy the summer and their fun summer teams. Long course training is 30% more productive than short course training and because the performance curve is 6-9 months behind the training curve, summer training has a large impact on performance during the winter months. And yes, swimmers can swim long course and continue to swim summer league at the same time.
What will those practice times be? Once school is out, Seniors will likely practice from 6:00-8:30AM each morning, Monday through Saturday at Miller Park, with afternoon practices held on Tuesday, Wednesday, & Friday at the Jamerson. Pre-seniors will swim from 6:30-8:30AM, Monday through Saturday. Gold & Blue swimmers will swim 7:00-8:30AM, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - note that there is NO Tuesday morning practice for these swimmers due to Monday night LAL meets. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions you may have about the upcoming summer season.
