LY NCHBURG Y SWIM TEAM
OVER 47 YEARS OF LOCAL SWIMMING
WHERE DID THE SUMMER GO?
Playing
their cards right, the long course season has sped by and we find ourselves
on the edge of the end-of-season championship meets. We’ve been blessed with
cool nights to keep our pool water refreshing at Miller Park and the
Firecracker Invitational had a record number of participants this year.
Swimmers preparing to travel to Cary this week to compete in the Virginia
Swimming Long Course Senior Championship include: Emily Black, Chelsea Law,
Maddy Skorcz, Susanna White, Jason Brame, Andrew Cook, Nick Gorman, Phil
Gorman, Carter Head, Chad Nowakowski, Kemp Pettyjohn, Travis Stauder, and
Carter Watson. Next week’s Age Group Championship qualifiers include: Devin
Creger, Bryan Hankey, Sean Imron, Blake Nowakowski, Blake Proffitt, David
West, Logan White, Caleb Williams, Abigail Black, Sarah Fredericksen, Anna
Meinke, Grace Parker, Ainsley Reed, Alyssa Reed, Deanna Rossman, Katherine
Rossman, CT Skorcz, Juju Skorcz, and Amber Wingfield. We expect some of
these swimmers to go on to the Zone meet in Rockville, Maryland in August to
represent Virginia Swimming in their quest to defend the title. Susanna
White will travel to Minneapolis the first week of August to compete in the
USA Swimming Junior National Championship. And after a very exciting Olympic
Trials, I am sure everyone is anxious to see what will happen in Bejing with
the USA Swim Team. Will a 41 year old woman win a medal? Will Matt Grever’s
TYR suit be able to compete with the Speedo LZR suit? Will Ryan Lochte kick
off the wall in his 400 IM and beat Michael Phelps? Can’t wait to watch the
stories out of China.
The last long course practice will be Friday, August 1st. We’ll have a
nice break so that everyone can GROW before we start the new season the day
after Labor Day (seniors will start, mornings only, a week earlier). Seniors
and preseniors should continue to do some exercises and running during the
break to avoid falling horribly out of shape, and those with shoulder
problems will probably need to put in a little water time along with
maintaining their shoulder exercises. Be alert to further instruction from
Coach TJ.
FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS WITH LY
SWIMMING!
I will not allow yesterday’s success to lull me into today’s complacency,
for this is the great foundation of failure.
